This contribution purports to be an ‘early warning’ regarding political and legal stakes of the on-going TTIP negotiations. The paper investigates processes in which TTIP-relevant knowledge is produced and used for justifying the economic integration. It further analyses emergent institutions as a new level of functional market ordering, which gives rise to a specific set of epistemic and democratic concerns. The paper finally turns to question the aptness of traditional legitimating mechanisms, such as parliaments, to remedy any of the ensuing legitimacy challenges.
