180 When Field-Theory Meets EU Institutions (Book Panel)

Sunday, March 16, 2014: 9:00 AM-10:45 AM
Blue Room (Omni Shoreham)
This panel draws from two recent edited volumes that have brought field-theory research agenda in close contact with the study of EU institutions and policies.

The first one has been co-edited by Didier Georgakakis and Jay Rowell is entitled The field of Eurocracy. Mapping EU actors and professionals (Palgrave, 2013). The second one has been co-edited by Antoine Vauchez and Bruno de Witte, Lawyering Europe. European law as a transnational social field (Hart, 2013).

The discussion over these two books will bring together an inter-disciplinary group of sociologists, political scientists and legal scholars; it will provide an opportunity to assess the scope, the results and possible limits of this first ensemble of field-oriented inquiries into EU institutions.
