Thursday, July 9, 2015: 2:00 PM-3:45 PM
Erignac Amphitheater (13 rue de l'Université)
The book panel brings together a distinguished set of American Europeanists and immigration scholars to discuss the recently published collected essays of sociologist Adrian Favell. Immigration, Integration and Mobility (published by ECPR Press, Dec 2014) is a series of agenda setting essays for the field of migration studies which charts the emergence of new migration patterns and politics in Europe during the 1990s and 2000s. The collection explores issues of multiculturalism, immigrant integration, free movement, high skilled mobilities, East-West migration and globalisation, offering a comprehensive introduction to the dynamic field of international migration studies and its evolution since the 1990s. Our discussion will focus on the book's critique of standard paradigms of race and ethnicity in comparative research, the possibilities of an unified transatlantic field of research on assimilation and integration, and the political sociology of new European migrations and mobilities.
