Do Welfare State Features Change the Stance of Parties of the Left on Immigration?

This paper postulates that parties of the Left face a tension between the preferences of different constituencies in regards to immigration.  It explores the extent to which this tension may be affected by the way in which welfare states are financed through an analysis of time-series data on 12 EU states.
