New Books on Empire: Ruth Ben-Ghiat's "Italian Fascism's Empire Cinema" and Susan Pedersen's "The Guardians: The League of Nations and the Crisis of Empire"

This session will present two new books on European empires: Ruth Ben-Ghiat's Italian Fascism's Empire Cinema and Susan Pedersen's The Guardians: The League of Nations and the Crisis of Empire. These books share a number of themes, from the crisis of empire in the twentieth century to its changing shape in the face of fascism and war. We will have a respondent for each book and then the authors will comment. Krishan Kumar will discuss Susan Pedersen's book and George Steinmetz will discuss Ruth Ben-Ghiat's.
