A Civil Society Perspective of
Sustainable Energy Policy and Green Jobs in Malta as a Small EU State
Michael Briguglio and Maria Brown

This study will be a follow up of the 2011 study by Michael Briguglio, Maria Brown and Diana Aquilina entitled  “A Civil Society Perspective of Sustainable Energy Policy and Green Jobs in Malta as a Small EU State”, published in Green Jobs from a Small Scale Perspective – Case Studies from Malta, edited by Saviour Rizzo and published by the Green European Foundation.
This study will verify whether the main findings of the 2011 study are still relevant for 2016 or whether substantive changes have been carried out in Malta since then, especially due to policy changes in Malta's energy sector, such as the concurrent shift from heavy fuel oil to gas.
For this purpose, the same organisations interviewed in 2011 will be in interviewed, together with a broader sample of civil society representatives in the field. Sample will include ENGOs, employers associations, trade unions and think tanks.
Structured interviews will be carried out for the purpose, and interviewees will also be asked on the prospects of Malta becoming a zero carbon society by 2050.
