Since 2009, several Eurozone member states have been faced with severe fiscal troubles concerning deficit spending. In order to prevent the Eurozone from collapse EC, IMF and ECB have stepwise established several fiscal rescue funds for Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Cyprus and Spain since 2010. In my paper I raise the question to what extent the EU citizens are willing to support these fiscal solidarity measures, which motives supporters and deniers of solidarity have in mind, and which austerity measures should be implemented by member
states that receive help. In order to give preliminary answers to these questions I mainly use data from the “Fiscal Solidarity within the European Union” (FSEU) Survey, which we have carried out in Germany and Portugal in July 2012.
