Turkey’s membership bid for the EU Scholarly interest in the public opinion support for Turkey’s membership in the EU has primarily left out two important questions unanswered. One concerns the influence of economic crises, the other concerns the influence of religiosity upon membership support. These two issues are likely to be related to one another since there is reason to suspect that reactions to economic crises by relatively more religious people could significantly be different and more accommodating the negative influence of economic crisis. Using Turkish Election Surveys, Eurobarometer surveys and International Social Survey Program data, I test the interactive effects of economic considerations and religiosity towards Turkey’s EU membership.
