This presentation will focus on the Europeanist ideals of French right-wing writers in the Interbellum. Especially the europeanist thought of the French author Pierre Drieu de la Rochelle (1893-1945) will be examined. Drieu de la Rochelle took his inspiration from Joseph de Maistre and the ordering of Europe during the Middle-Ages when formulating his European Ideas as an alternative to the liberal and democratic order which was created at the Peace conference in Paris in 1918. The example of Drie de la Rochelle makes clear that there existed a true antikantian tradition in France from the ideas of Joseph de Maistre and other counterrevolutionary authors at the start of the nineteenth century up to the age of the Twentieth century World Wars.
