This panel is intended to enhance the small but fast growing research on the interface between climate change and welfare states in European and OECD countries. The areas of interface are many and various and this panel does not want to lay down too tight a format. They include:

Income distribution within countries: impacts on carbon responsibilities and climate change vulnerabilities

Climate mitigation programmes and social programmes: policy tensions between equity and sustainability

Climate mitigation programmes and social programmes: potential synergies in housing and health

Green capitalism and emerging ‘eco-welfare’ states
