008 Labor Market Demand, Policy, and the Future of Skills in Europe

Friday, March 14, 2014: 9:00 AM-10:45 AM
Calvert (Omni Shoreham)
This session builds on NEUJOBS, a major research project on future of employment in Europe funded by the EU under the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Development. It will present five papers at the intersection of labour market demand and future of skills in Europe. Two of them are explicitly forward-looking and present a quantitative and qualitative look at future skill structure of the European population. Two papers present an innovative look at interaction between labour market demand and skill structure. One uses online job advertisements to conduct a comparative analysis of skills demanded by employers for low-skilled occupations. The other analyses returns to higher education in 5 European countries by field of study and incorporating all costs and benefits. The last paper is a case study – it looks at employment in childcare and social inclusion services, particularly its structure.
