This roundtable seeks to map, understand and explain the resurrection of old ideas and social actors as well as the emergence of “new” ones in the midst of the European crisis. It is specifically concerned with outlining the implications of these developments for European integration. It is organised around two broad sets of questions:

1) What is the relation between the rise of new and old ideas and actors to the crisis in Europe and what are the implications for European integration? Clearly, here, we can think of the rise of actors and movements on the political "extremes" and margins (however defined), but perhaps also new “post-political” actors and movements.

2) Are old ideas and political actors and movements largely obsolete and silent in the context of the crisis or are they appearing in new forms and in new alliances? Do these new actors/alliances have a largely national or pan European character?
