Armies and the Art of Revolution Revisited”
Jeff Goodwin, New York University, jgoodwin.nyu@gmail.com
Abstract: This paper examines the role of armies in shaping the onset, dynamics, and consequences of revolutions, especially revolutions with liberal-democratic outcomes. It does so through a reexamination of Katharine Chorley's neglected classic study, Armies and the Art of Revolution (1943). It focuses on the question, how have armies facilitated democratic outcomes to revolutionary conflicts.
