Emerging Insecurities: The Case of Rising Self-Censorship in Turkish Media

This article explores the politics of censorship in contemporary Turkey. It explains the rise of self-censorship in mainstream media on the basis of how professional relations mediate the effects of political repression on occupation practices. In particular, the article presents evidence on how the politics of polarization strengthens political stigmas, and how insecurities and indeterminacies emerge in professional relations of journalists and intellectuals in effect of strengthened political stigmas. The papers draws on interviews with journalists and intellectuals of various political backgrounds.
