Gilbert Scott Building - Room 656A (University of Glasgow)
Europe was once a continent of empires, and traces of empire continue to show themselves in the cities, cultures, and mentalities of European societies. Even the EU has been considered a re-creation of empire, of sorts. Building on my forthcoming book, Visions of Empire: How Five Imperial Regimes Shaped the World (Princeton, spring 2017), I would like to suggest that imperial legacies is one way of considering European societies, past and present.
