072 The European Economic Area: Is It Time for Reform Too?

Wednesday, July 12, 2017: 2:00 PM-3:45 PM
John McIntyre - Teaching Room 208 (University of Glasgow)
The current focus is on the EU and its internal market but there is also another market in Europe closely linked to the EU's internal market ie the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA has its own Treaty, institutions and legal order and has been in operation for over 20years.   The EEA has been promoted by some as a possible option for the UK upon its exit from the EU but to what extent are the EFTA members of the EEA satisfied with how the EEA works 20 years on?  The objective of the papers delivered in this Panel is to inform the audience about the EEA, to identify its strengths and weaknesses and to examine the EEA's sustainability as an alternative market for the UK.
