Trump and the Struggle over the Boundaries between Us and Them

The Trump (mis)administration seeks to return the US to an earlier era when the exclusion of blacks, immigrants, and gays was normative. This paper explores the proposition that despite the short term misery inflicted on these and other vulnerable minorities, there are both cultural and social structural factors that favor a longer term trend toward greater inclusivity.
