001 Policy issues in the EU: Experts, ideas and reforms after the crisis

Crisis-hardened EU Governance
Wednesday, March 28, 2018: 9:00 AM-10:45 AM
Center Court (InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile)
The global financial crisis and its European manifestations have shaken the routines of policy making in the EU. The initial “fast burning” phase of the crisis, when actors still had not grasped the nature of the troubles and had to build their own crisis narratives, was characterized by policy innovation and experimentation. Currently, in the “slow burning” phase, the nature of the crisis and policy responses have settled. The panel takes a look at policy solutions that have been found to respond to urgent problems, such as financial sector reforms, sovereign debt, austerity, mobility and demographic change. It is particularly interested in how policy expertise and ideas have affected policy responses.
